About us
OUR SOCIETY
We aim to care for the welfare and to provide support to our members and beyond, whilst helping to maintain links with Singapore through various cultural and social events. Our Society acts as a representative of Singaporeans and distinguishes itself from the other societies by organizing events that are unique to Singaporeans, helping them to bond and foster cohesion amongst the Singaporean students, whilst working and interacting with other societies from the South East Asian Region. We also aim to ease the transition into a new lifestyle at the University of Manchester for all Freshers and new Singaporean arrivals. Anyone is welcome to join us to gain a Singaporean perspective of life in Manchester, and to participate in our activities and get to know Singapore through her people. So what are you waiting for? Tay Wan Xin
President
Wan Xin is currently studying Development Studies at the University of Manchester. She enjoys spending time with friends and playing animal crossing, and you can often find her doing either while drinking bubble tea. She's here to create a second home for Singaporeans in Manchester, so don't be shy to approach her for help or to make friends! However, Wan Xin is deathly allergic to math so she won't be able to help with your homework. Makes you wonder why she picked an economics degree…
Sammi Lim
Vice-President
Sammi is currently studying Medicine at the University of Manchester. She likes SPICY things like MALA HOTPOT and eats at least 3 chocolate bars a day. But she is TRYING to lead a healthy lifestyle by exercising (especially yoga). During her free time, she plays the piano or watches Netflix. Her favourite TV series include Grey’s Anatomy, Ginny & Georgia and Snowpiercer. She’s always open to having conversations, so feel free to approach her! :)
Afra Farveen

Afra is studying Environmental Science at the University of Manchester. She loves cooking and spending quality time with people. She also enjoys travelling and taking on new adventures. Nature fascinates and spiritually satisfies her, so she aims to protect what we have on earth. Her love for extreme sports knows no limits. If someone wants to go on a free fall (maybe not a true one) at 10,000ft with her, she is always prepared so do let her know if that is your cup of tea!
Yeo Bing Shin

Bing Shin is currently pursuing a degree in IT Management with Business at The University of Manchester. He previously completed his diploma in Banking and Financial Services and is very interested to use both of his finance and IT knowledge to benefit the Fintech industry. Some hobbies of his include exercising and venturing into new things! In Manchester, he is looking forward to improving his cooking skills and travelling :)
Leow Shawn Tao
General Secretary
Shawn Tao is currently pursuing a degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Manchester. He hopes to build some cool flying thing one day. When not busy engineering, he enjoys going on hikes. He appreciates the fresh air, the cool breeze, nature’s vastness, and also the expansive airspace where his cool flying thing might one day fly in. Shawn Tao enjoys quality time with his friends, and would not say no to good food and good company.
Felicia Soh
Events Director
Felicia is studying International Business, Finance and Economics at the University of Manchester. She has found many life hacks after moving to Manchester and one of which includes microwaving eggs! She is constantly on a hunt for new food places in Manchester so feel free to join her if you're down for good eats! Her random bursts of energy will definitely make your days in Manchester a little brighter.
Berenice Chye

Berenice is currently studying Finance in the University of Manchester. She previously graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic with a Diploma in Banking and Financial Services. Aside from her passion in Finance. Berenice also dances, plays the piano and illustrates during her free time. Other hobbies also include playing mobile and PC games. Feel free to say hi!
