Q: How do we pick up the biometric residence permit, which I understand must be collected within 10 days of my arrival in the UK, if I’m to be quarantined for 2 weeks on entry?

A: You usually need to collect your BRP before the vignette sticker in your travel document expires or within 10 days of arriving in the UK, whichever is later. We believe there will be flexible arrangement by UKVI if quarantine is still in place in Sep. Please don't worry about this.

Q: In this situation, with the travel restrictions, if my parent decides to come and join me for the first few weeks, will they just apply for a tourist VISA or can they apply for another kind of VISA?

A: We have a dedicated immigration team to advise you about any enquiries regarding VISA. Their email address is: visa@manchester.ac.uk.

Q: If I arrive 2 weeks before the start of term, and am quarantined for 2 weeks, will there be enough time to arrange my affairs (create a bank account, arrange a data plan for my phone, etc) before teaching starts in earnest?

A: Most banking services are considered essential services. Quarantined individuals are still able to go out to get necessities. You should still be able to go down to the bank and phone service providers to set up before school starts

Q: When would the CAS be issued to students?

A: Visa applications can only be made a maximum of 3 months prior to the start of the programme so you should not expect to receive your CAS more than 3 months before your course start date.

Q: Should we submit applications for accommodation if Manchester is our insurance choice?

A: You can submit applications as long as you hold an offer (Conditional of unconditional) from UoM. The application deadline is 31st August

Q: Is coming to Manchester for the first semester optional as most lectures are online?

A: Students should plan to join us in Manchester if they can. Our approach is intended to be flexible, with a mixture of online large lectures (where social distancing is not possible) and face-to-face seminars in smaller groups (depending on UK Government advice). For students that are unable to join us in Manchester due to international travel restrictions, they will be able to access all of their learning online. If you can’t be in Manchester, none of you are excluded or disadvantaged in any way.

Q: Are there any on-job campus opportunities to work part time?

A: Yes! Many opportunities on campus. International Office has hundreds of student ambassadors for example, they all get paid for their work. Also, there are other jobs available out of campus.

Q: How do we apply for accommodation?
