Connecting to the internet and remaining contactable is high up everyone’s priority when moving to a new country. Rejoice, as the process of acquiring a UK number is fairly simple! It is best done after you have set up your bank account, but some stores like Vodafone let you transact in their physical stores with cash or international cards (eg. Youtrip, UOB Mighty FX, SG credit cards). Remember to bring proof of identity (preferably your BRP, refer to our article if you want to know what that is) and have your UK address on hand when you head down to the store, as those are required for registration. You should be in and out within minutes with a brand-new phone number and sweet, sweet internet connectivity.

Here are some mobile carriers used by our very own members:

VOXI by Vodafone (offers unlimited social media data usage, SMS and calls. Free data roaming in Europe)

Giffgaff by O2 (offers unlimited SMS and calls)

Three (offers free data roaming worldwide, unlimited SMS and calls)

Note: SIM-only plans are recommended due to the ease of acquiring and cancelling them. Feel free to explore contract options if you wish!
